Rick was drafted in the sixth round of the 1983 NHL Entry Draft, 121st overall. He was the Flyers fifth pick in that draft (they had traded their first round pick on August 20, 1982 in the deal to get Mark Howe.) He would spend over seven full seasons in Philadelphia, and eventually become their ninth captain.
On March 8, 2000 Rick was brought home in a trade that saw Mikael Renberg packing for Phoenix.
Some of his accomplishments while wearing the orange and black:

Played first NHL game against Washington, October 11, 1984
Recorded first NHL point as a goal October 15, 1984 against Montreal
First NHL assist tallied against Vancouver October 18, 1984
Chosen three times for the NHL All-Star Game (1989, 90, 91)
Selected as NHL Player of the Week (February 28, 1988)
Awarded Flyers' Class Guy Award for best media rapport (1988)
Awarded the Bobby Clarke trophy as Most Valuable Flyer (1990)
Game-winning-goal in Conference Finals versus Montreal, sent the Flyers to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1987
Named Flyers Captain October 2, 1991
Overtook Paul Holmgren as team's all-time penalty minute leader October 17, 1991
Eight career hat tricks (including 4 four-goal games)
Scored a goal in his first game back as a Flyer
Recorded his 500th career assist December 6, 2000 versus Tampa, on a play where he was hit in the mouth by a puck, knocking out some teeth

** For the 1986-87 season, the penalty minutes stat is taken from Flyers' records. There has been some question as to whether the correct number might actually be 288, as listed in the Official NHL Guide, and the Sporting News website.
