Rick was drafted in the sixth round of the 1983 NHL Entry Draft, 121st overall. He was the Flyers
fifth pick in that draft (they had traded their first round pick on August 20, 1982 in the deal to get Mark Howe.) He would spend over seven full seasons in Philadelphia, and eventually become their ninth captain.
On March 8, 2000 Rick was brought home in a trade that saw Mikael Renberg packing for Phoenix.

** For the 1986-87 season, the penalty minutes stat is taken from Flyers' records. There has been some question as to whether the correct number might actually be 288, as listed in the Official NHL Guide, and the Sporting News website.
